![]() ![]() It became very popular at schools and in religious educational institutions. ![]() From 1994 forward Marcus was able to stop working as a graphic artist and to devote all his time to illustrating. His best-known work to date is The Rainbow Fish, which has remained on bestseller lists across the United States since 1992. He had presented the book to four or five publishers, but it was Brigitte Sidjanski at North-South Books who recognized his talent. Then he began to write and illustrate his first book, The Sleepy Owl, which was published in 1986. ![]() At the time his wife was a kindergarten teacher, so he toured the United States for six months, but when he returned to Switzerland in 1984, he went back to work half time at the agency so he could spend time figuring out what type of art to do. In 1983, he decided to dedicate more time to artistic pursuits such as illustrating books. Marcus Pfister, born in 1960 at Berne, Switzerland, is a Swiss author and illustrator of children’s picture books who began his career as a graphic artist in an advertising agency.
